In my early twenties,
I did not think this work would become my path.
It was simply one of the things I COULD DO, and I began for practical reasons.
At that age, sewing and alteration did not seem glamorous.
It was not a field that brought quick recognition. But through repetition, my hands grew steadier, and my eyes learned to read the structure of fabric.
By adjusting garments for clients, I came to understand how clothing is built, and in the process, I developed my own standards for work.
Even now, I learn by observing the work of makers around the world. In home and studios, people continue sewing as part of their daily lives, and I am part of that same current. And in my own place, I continue sewing.
내가 할 수 있는 일.
20대 초반, 나는 이 일이 나의 길이 될 것이라고 생각 하지 않았다. 그저 내가 할 수 있는 일 중 하나였고, 현실적인 이유로 시작했다.
그 시절, 바느질과 수선은 화려하거나 빠르게 인정받는 일이 아니었다. 하지만 반복되는 시간 속에서 손은 점점 단단해졌고, 눈은 천의 구조를 읽기 지작했다.
손님의 옷을 고치며 나는 옷이 만들어지는 방식을 이해하기 되었고, 그 과정에서 나만의 기준도 세웠다.
지금도 나는 세계 곳곳에서 작업하는 이들의 손길을 보며 배운다. 각자의 자리에서 일상처럼 바느질을 이어가는 사람들 속에서,
나 또한 나의 자리에서 sewing을 이어가고 있다.
